Become a High School Baseball Umpire

Interested in officiating high school baseball in Central Texas? We welcome new members and TASO transfers to our chapter!

Requirements

To become a high school baseball umpire in Texas, you must:

  1. Register with TASO - Texas Association of Sports Officials
  2. Complete required training - Including rules education and on-field mechanics
  3. Pass background check - Required by UIL
  4. Attend chapter meetings - Stay current with rules and chapter updates

Getting Started

Step 1: TASO Registration

Visit TASO and click the Apply button in the New Applicants section to register as a baseball official. Select the Central Texas chapter during the application process to connect with us.

Step 2: Contact Our Chapter

No prior umpiring experience is required — training and mentoring are provided. Complete the short form below and a chapter representative will contact you.

Please include any playing, coaching, umpiring, officiating, or other baseball-related experience.

Examples: stay involved in the game, earn extra income, officiate varsity baseball, give back to the sport, learn something new, etc.

Step 3: Attend Training

New officials complete classroom instruction and field training before receiving game assignments.

What to Expect

  • Season: High school baseball runs February through May
  • Games: Varsity (6A, 5A, 4A, & TAPPS), JV, and Freshman
  • Compensation: Game fees vary by level and tournament
  • Commitment: Flexible scheduling based on your availability
